Frontier Lithium welcomes start of Berens bridge and road construction in Ontario
Greater Sudbury-based Frontier Lithium has welcomed the start of construction on the Berens bridge and road project in Northern Ontario, following confirmation from Ontario’s Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth, George Pirie.
The project, to be delivered through an agreement with Pikangikum First Nation and the Whitefeather Forest Community Resource Management Authority (WFCRMA), includes construction of a two-lane bridge across the Berens river and more than 30 km of new and upgraded all-season road links.
WFCRMA will secure and hold all construction permits, with a general contractor appointed to oversee the works. Rock drilling and blasting to prepare the bridge site began last week, with additional onsite activities – including construction of a temporary bridge – scheduled to continue through spring 2026. The permanent bridge is expected to be completed in 2028.
The Berens bridge and road infrastructure is intended to provide improved year-round access for several Treaty #5 First Nation communities, enhancing safety, reducing the cost of goods and improving access to essential services for residents across the region.
The improved all-season access would also support the advancement of Frontier’s PAK lithium project and broader critical minerals development in the province.
